The purpose of the guide is to give the user an overview of the various search possibilities, functionality of the search machine and the processing of the hits found here, which can then be used for a search in the IREON Gateway.
The nine-language "European Thesaurus on International Relations and Area Studies" has been published |23.11.2007
The multilingual European Thesaurus has a wide coverage, including approx. 8,200 descriptors from the interdisciplinary subject field international relations, transnationalism and area studies. It offers access to the vocabulary of the following areas in eight languages:

- International law
- Technology
- Economy
- Society
- State
- Science / Research
- Law
- Environment / Nature
- Culture
- Education
- Agriculture
- Social affairs / Health
- Information and Communication
- Labour and Employment
- Politics and policy

- International organizations (selection of proper names)
- World regions, countries, oceans
- International agreements (selection of proper names)
The European Thesaurus on International Relations and Area Studies is available online in IREON - the International Relations and Area Studies Gateway and in print in seven systematic and alphabetic parts at fiv(at)swp-berlin.org. Further information can be found on the website of the German Information Network International Relations and Area Studies.
The online version includes besides German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Czech also Croatian. The print version includes all of these languages except Croatian. Seven alphabetic indexes of terms/descriptors and synonyms/descriptors in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian Polish and Czech help to access the systematic multilingual fields in the systematic part.
The European Thesaurus has been developed in the framework of the European Information Network on International Relations and Area Studies (EINIRAS) with a significant contribution by:
